How Wing Tsun Kung Fu Can Boost Confidence and Self-Esteem

Diligent practice of kung-fu which requires a certain about of discipline will instill levels of confidence, even from the very first class. Repetition of basic skills creates “muscle memory” so your body seems to remember the techniques. You can respond to any attack automatically. Repeating a physical movement imprints its path on your brain. The movements of Wing Tsun kung-fu are logical. They take you to the logical path to the most efficient self-defense possible. Self-defense and defending yourself is no longer a mystery. Smaller persons can defend themselves against larger, stronger attackers.

When the movements are combined, your confidence grows. When these combined movements are applied in scenarios, your confidence grows even further.

We take it a step further when we begin sticky hands training. The very idea that we can control our attackers’ hands is amazing, but sticky hands training can do this. By “clinging arms” with an attacker, we can evade, deflect, or dissolve an attackers’ force. This is another reason you can believe in your own ability.

The next step is to apply the skills of sticky hands in kuo sau (fighting chi sau) and then lat sau (free-hand-fighting).
